Heritage Huangjing

Traditional steaming & drying craftsmanship

$89.90 USD

Traditionally steamed and dried Huangjing, with a gently sweet character. An everyday way to enjoy the craft, whether steeped or gently simmered.

1 bag · 30 individually wrapped sachets · 10 g each · 300 g total

For a richer aroma, boil then gently simmer.

Steeping can also make a rich, deeply coloured cup over time. We recommend bringing the tea to a boil, then gently simmering, to bring out its aroma.

Our recommended ritualGently simmer

Our recommended method for a richer aroma: bring to a boil, then gently simmer.

  1. Open one 10 g sachet. Place the Huangjing pieces in a stovetop-safe saucepan with 16–20 fl oz (about 475–590 mL) of water.
  2. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a gentle simmer. Taste as it develops, adjusting the simmering time and water to your preference. Keep the pieces covered with water.
  3. Pour and enjoy. Add fresh water to the same pieces for another cup, adjusting the strength to taste.
Simply steep

An easy way to enjoy Huangjing. Longer steeping can deepen the colour and strength; adjust to your taste.

  1. Open one 10 g sachet and empty the pieces into a teapot or infuser.
  2. Add 16–20 fl oz (about 475–590 mL) of hot water. Start with 5–10 minutes, or steep longer for a stronger cup, adjusting to taste.
  3. Pour and enjoy. Add fresh hot water to re-steep the same pieces as desired.

The wrapper is packaging: never steep or simmer it. Use stovetop-safe cookware for simmering.

Contact us
What is huangjing?

Huangjing is the Chinese name used for Polygonatum rhizomes, long enjoyed in Chinese food culture. These teas contain dried rhizome of Polygonatum cyrtonema. This is a botanical infusion, rather than tea made from Camellia sinensis leaves.

How are the two selections different?

Both selections use traditional steaming and drying craftsmanship. Heritage is our everyday craft selection. Jiuhua is our premium selection, made with raw material from the Jiuhua Mountain area, a historically prized source. Both are Polygonatum cyrtonema, with 30 individually wrapped 10 g portions per 300 g bag.

Do I put the gold wrapper in hot water?

No. Tear open the individual wrapper and put the rhizome pieces into a teapot or infuser. Do not steep the packaging.

Should I steep or simmer Huangjing?

Both methods work, and longer steeping can also deepen the colour and strength of your tea. For a richer aroma, we recommend bringing the pieces and water to a boil, then gently simmering in stovetop-safe cookware. Adjust the time and water to taste. Open the wrapper first and use only the pieces. Add fresh water to enjoy the same pieces again.

What is the traditional craft?

Our selections are prepared through traditional steaming and drying. Jiuhua Huangjing making is also a recognized regional craft, included in Anhui’s provincial intangible cultural heritage list in 2022.
